With Just Cause 3 being one of the free games given to PS Plus subscribers next month, I thought that I should put my review of it up before it was available for download. Trouble is, Just Cause 3 is one of the few games I haven't finished.
It's not because it's a bad game, it's actually a lot of fun. The trouble is, the sandbox nature of the game may be almost too fun. What I mean is, when I play I get more sucked into messing around and blowing stuff up than anything else. So I almost never do a mission and therefore never make any real progress.
The Basics
You're supposed to be overthrowing a dictator and supporting rebel forces, and I'm doing that, sort of. I find myself only doing enough missions so I can unlock areas and get access to bases and cities to free. Once I have access to the map, I give up on the missions and just run wild.
Your character has a wing suit, a parachute, and a grappling hook. You can drive, but with mastering the tools you were given there is really no need. You are really more like a superhero when you don't drive anyway.
My favorite item for getting around is the tether. Creative use of this device also means you can easily clear an area of enemies without even having to pull out a weapon at all. I sometimes will go into a providence and see of I can clear all tasks without using a gun at all. The tether is defiantly your friend.
On the Plus Side
- There is tons of stuff to blow up!
- There are lots of ways for you to get creative with your skills
- It is a huge sandbox for you to play around in
- There are tons of challenges all around for you to complete
The Negatives
- The story is very meh
- There are technical issues here and there
- Lots of the missions and challenges get repetitive (get ready to escort people, ugh)
I don't know if I'll ever finish the game, but I do know I'll continue to play this game for a long time to come, especially when i just want to have some mindless fun and blow stuff up.
